The Awareness Center is doing our best to keep our organization up and running, unfortunately at this time we not functioning at full capacity due to lack of funds.  If you feel that the information our web page is worthwhile please consider making a donation to our organization. Suggested donation is $1.00 per page that you visit.

Another way you can help is by becoming a paid member of our organization.  Membership includes receiving our daily e-mail newsletter, and the ability to join one of our Special Interest Groups (SIGS).  The cost of membership is $36.00 for one year.

The Awareness Center is a non-profit, certified 501 (c) (3) organization.  Our goals include reaching out to Jewish survivors of sexual violence, parents of sexually abused children, family members of alleged and convicted sex offenders, rabbis, cantors and other community leaders. We also serve as a clearinghouse of information, and offer advocacy for those in need and educational seminars.

   • Drug and Alcohol Addictions
     1. Beit T'Shuvah  Beit T'Shuvah provides emotional and spiritual healing to Jews with addictive and behavioral disorders. The program integrates the values of Torah with the 12-Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous as the basis of the recovery process.
     2. Gateway Rehabilitation Center  Gateway, a not for profit organization, was founded in 1972 by Abraham J. Twerski, MD, an internationally known author, lecturer, teacher and physician.  It was opened as a 28 day abstinence based alcohol and drug dependence treatment center.  Now Gateway offers a variety of services in multiple locations but with the same compassionate and individualized approach as in our early years.
     3. HaDerech - For addictions in Israel  Residential care is provided for individuals struggling with the disease of addiction and its impact on their lives.  HaDerech is designed to offer an in-depth comprehensive program for women and men, 18 years of age and older, with multi-lingual support and international backround. Our purpose is to use the setting of a kibbutz community and the skills of our professional staff to create a structural therapeutic rehabilitation program. We are the first and only licensed 12 step facility in Israel and the Middle East.
     4. House of Hope  The Jewish Tradition teaches compassion to those around us who are most vulnerable. Our committment to the Jewish community compels us to action. The House of Hope is the result of that action.  The House of Hope opened its doors in 1996 to meet a community challenge: to help Jewish men overcome their drug and alcohol addictions and regain their dignity, self confidence and ability to function as productive members of the community.  The House of Hope is the only residential recovery facility for Jewish men in the State of Maryland. It enables up to eighteen residents to regain their skills and strength in order to build a productive life. Providing a service for an unmet need, we are proud to say that we have succeeded beyond our expectations.  Situated in Baltimore City, we offer our residents proximity to a flourishing Jewish community containing synagogues, hospitals, community centers and numerous employment opportunities.

     • Internet Addiction Guide  What IAD is is difficult to define at this time. Research to date has been composed exclusively of exploratory surveys, which cannot establish causal relationships between specific behaviors and their cause. While surveys can help establish descriptions of how people feel about themselves and their behaviors, they cannot draw conclusions about whether a specific technology, such as the Internet, has actually caused those behaviors. Those conclusions which are drawn are purely speculative and subjective made by the researchers themselves. They cannot be supported by existing data.
