Regarding The Awareness Center’s Sex Offender Registry


November 16, 2009 -- The Awareness Center needs helps so that we can update our sex offender registry, of alleged and convicted sex offenders who are a part of Jewish communities internationally. 


Unfortunately the worlds economy has taken its toll on The Awareness Center.  We no longer have the funds nor human power to update and or maintain this section of our web page.  To be able to properly manage our site, we need to raise enough funds to hire staff to oversee it. 


Due to the time demands of researching the material and updating our sex offender registry we have no ability to make changes to it, including adding updated information or adding new alleged and or convicted sex offenders who meet our criteria to be listed. On average it costs $500 - $1000 per individual listed on the registry per year.

December 6, 2009 -- CALL TO ACTION:  Contact NJ Governor Jon S. Corzine Regarding The Case of Rabbi Baruch Lanner The Awareness Center along with several other people have sent Laura Hook, Assistant Prosecutor - Union county, a copy of the original Jewish Week article (Stolen Innocence:  Rabbi Baruch Lanner, the charismatic magnet of NCSY, was revered in the Orthodox Union youth group, despite longtime reports of abuse of teens.) and the summary of the Joel Commission report to the OU.  The Awareness Center has been informed by several sources  that the original Peter Bowser, the original prosecutor from Monmouth County, was not consulted about Lanner's status on the sex offender registry and he would have never recommended it.  Unfortunately, it appears that Laura Hood is more interested in protecting the New Jersey system that is in place,  than protecting unsuspecting individuals who might be the next in line to be Rabbi Baruch Lanner's next victim.  Remember allegations have been made against Lanner since at least the 1980's, yet Laura Hook didn't seem to be aware of his past history, nor was she interested in correcting the error made by her office in the case of Rabbi Baruch Lanner. The Awareness Center is aware that there are various investigative reporters have been working on the story, yet have been stonewalled in moving forward because of the "confidential hearing" Baruch Lanner was able to finagle -- a hearing in which none of his victims were made aware of or allowed to provide testimony at.  Considering this could happened with a high profile case like, Rabbi Baruch Lanner -- one must wonder how many other dangerous serial sex offenders have been able to get their names removed from the New Jersey sex offender registry.   The Awareness Center is asking everyone to contact:  Laura Hook, Assistant Prosecutor and also the Governor of New Jersey and demand that Baruch Lanner be placed back on Tier Two so that his name will appear on both the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry and the National Sex Offender Registry. Please see 775.21(10)(c) for more information. _________________________________________________ November 17, 2009 CALL TO ACTION:  Demanding Rabbi Baruch Lanner’s Tier Two Sex Offender Registry Status Be Reinstated. http://www.theawarenesscenter.org/LannerCallToAction.pdf Parole for convicted sex offender, Rabbi Baruch Lanner is schedule to end on November 23, 2009.   Rabbi Baruch Lanner can no longer be found on the New Jersey (Megan’s Law) nor National Sex Offender Registry.  It appears that the state of New Jersey held a special “Confidential Hearing” a few months ago which changed Rabbi Lanner’s sex offender “Tier Level” from Level Two, to Level One.  This “confidential” hearing was so “confidential that not one of Lanner’s victims were notified, nor given opportunity to be present or provide testimony.   According to New Jersey’s state law, a sex offender placed on “Tier One”, is considered to for those at a "low risk of re-offense."  This offender is one who, based on such factors as the type of crime, the lack of violence in his behavior, the lack of a substantial criminal history and the existence of ties to the community, presents a relatively low risk of harm to the community.  According to the NJ guideline link below, Tier Two offenders encompass those who are a "moderate risk of re-offense," thus constituting a relatively moderate risk of harm to the community in that the pertinent documents demonstrate that they are relatively likely to re- offend in comparison to Tier One offenders, warranting limited notice for the protection of the public.  According to the Public Summary of the Report of the NCSY Special Commission, dated December 21, 2000 (see link below); and also the article New York Jewish week article “Stolen Innocence”, (June 23, 2000) -- Rabbi Baruch Lanner has a long history of emotionally, physical and sexually assaulting numerous students under his direction since the 1970’s.  His offenses include kissing and foundling female students, kicking boys in the groin, taking a knife to a young man, propositioning girls in a yeshiva high school where he was principal.  Considering these facts how is it that the judge in the “confidential hearing”, could have determined that a man who was abusing children for over thirty years could no longer be a danger to the community? The Awareness Center is asking everyone to call Laura Hook, the Assistant Prosecutor in Union County and demand that she do everything in her power to have Rabbi Baruch Lanner Tier Two Sex Offender status be reinstated.  We are also asking that Lanner  be required to be on the National Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life.  This is the only hope we have that we can prevent Rabbi Baruch Lanner from creating any more victims (either adults and or children). The Awareness Center is providing the documentary "Unorthodox Conduct" in the memory of Daniel Levin. The documentary was created by Canadian Broadcast Company in 1994 regarding the case of Rabbi Ephraim Bryks.

Our hopes is that it will be used as a way to educate the public on the devastating ramifications a case can have on an individual, family and in Jewish communities around the world. It's important to know what happens when a case of "alleged" childhood sexual abuse in the Jewish community is not dealt with properly from the beginning (bringing the case to law enforcement who is trained and educated in dealing with these cases).
